Stig Ahlberg died on 16 September 2001. He was for many years an honorary member of the Swedish Kennel Club. He wrote under the pen name "Black Jack" in Hundsport, many times with sharp views but always in a loving way. He was a good breeder under the kennel name Ragtime. Stig Ahlberg was awarded SKK's highest honor Hamilton plaque for his breeding of Airedale Terriers.
Stig Ahlberg started his newspaper career as parliamentary reporter, later he became editor of  Röster i Radio / TV. He was a contemporary and friend of all the "great" in the Journal of the World - Jan-Olof "Jolo" Olsson, Lars Ulvenstam, Bjorn von Rosen ... Stig Ahlberg was a frequent commentator in Hundsport, preferably in the areas of breeding and exhibition. He could spice up their posts with Attic salt. Such was the Stig Ahlberg's position in SKK, he could make even sharp criticism. There is no similar debater today. I remember that he was also very interested in the importance of "type" and argued that "hunting for faults" often obscures the important overall picture for the judge.

Stig Ahlberg had rare good performing gifts, he had everything - education, knowledge, appearance, style. He was the foremost promoter of canine English and British traditions. He himself was the perfect gentleman and spoke the best English I've heard.

I had the great fortune and privilege to feel included to the great circle of friends. Countless are the times you stopped the car outside the pretty courtyard Rilanda in Roslagen, went up the stairs to the right lined with wonderful paintings by Richardis Sörvik, and then sit down and talk for hours about dogs and dog sports. Nothing seemed more important. It did not matter what adversity life could sometimes seem, to be the home of Stig and Vivian and Ann-Charlotte, their longtime helping hand, became more immediately enjoyable again.

It was great to get to know a man who shared both professional role as a hobby with one self. By Stig I learned a lot about the craft, the journalist critical approach. That I have been me greatly benefit and enjoyment, and possibly also to the great inconvenience.

In Rilanda started Stig a publishing company under the name Lilla Förlaget, and publshe a number of breed books, which is now sought after collectors items. A couple of scripts is still in my desk drawer, with Stig loving edits and comments.

Stig was the true animal lover, he loved dogs and knew everything about terriers. Above all, he loved the Scotties, in his opinion seen as God's gift to humanity. There were real treats to hear him speak of the foremost in the race of glory, the furrier Sven Sundquist and his of Brååtha-Scotties, on Birgit Westerström, kennel Ferox. He told me about what happened when Am & Eng Ch Bardene Bingo almost ended up in Sweden, but instead exported to the U.S and won BIS at Westminster ...

Stig never tired lecture over a fine Scottie at its best scores - the lovely unbroken line from the ears, the neck and the shoulders well laid ... the special nature that must be experienced! A good Scot had all the best qualities of the terrier and almost no bad. Foremost of all, according to Stig, was Ch Raglan Royal Commander. When he exporterads to Switzerland, was Stig not quite himself for several days ...

The last memory of the Stig was, when he was still 80 years old, insisted on showing his new star. He went out and picked a young Airedale from the kennel, I can not yet in spirit hear his pride and joy: "Have you seen the likes of hindquarters of a bitch!"

The voice and image as he swings his cap in farewell, I remember Mr. Hundsport, Stig Ahlberg.
